Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has praised five DStv Diski Challenge graduates as he believes they have started life in the topflight on a good note.
The quintet of Antonio van Wyk, Mervin Boji, Devin Titus, Oshwin Andries and Lance Weaver have hit the ground running with the Stellies first team under the watchful eye of Barker.
Barker promoted the youngsters after they guided Stellenbosch to their first ever Diski Challenge trophy last season before winning the 2022 Premier League Next Generation Cup.
After getting promotion, they’ve made their presence felt in the DStv Premiership.
Devin Titus, Antonio van Wyk, Mervin, Oshwin Andries have all managed to find the back of the net in the league.
Impressed Barker believes his youngsters can only get better if they get more plaging opportunities. This will help boost their confidence and increase their experience in the field.
“I think they are on the right track in terms of their development pathway. They have to gain more exposure and they will keep on improving. I am very pleased for them,” Barker told SuperSportTV.
Barker further applauded the continuity and consistency the youngsters have shown in the field.
“I think they all deserve it. They have shown the quality that they had in the Diski Challenge last season, and they are now showing that in the big league,” Barker added.
On Saturday Barker and his Capetonian troops are away from home as they visit Sekhukhune United.
Barker will be aiming to make it two victories in a row with his youthful squad, whilst Babina Noko are in search for their first victory in five outings.
Kickoff at Peter Mokaba Stadium is at 5.30pm.
