Teballo Monamodi Found Alive After Being Mistakenly Identified As Ekurhuleni Murder Victim
Teballo Monamodi is alive after being wrongly identified as the ninth victim in the Ekurhuleni killings.
The 24-year-old Vosloorus woman returned home today, Saturday after her family and friends initially believed that a woman’s body found in Villa Liza, Dawn Park, was hers.
The woman’s body was discovered on Thursday in an open space on Lama Street. She was partially clothed and had multiple stab wounds. Police said preliminary information indicated that she may have been killed elsewhere and her body dumped at the location.
Monamodi’s friends and relatives initially identified the body as hers after she had reportedly been missing. Her family later viewed the body at a mortuary and raised doubts about the identification after noticing that distinctive birthmarks did not match.
On Saturday, a neighbour spotted Monamodi in the area and told her that social media posts were circulating reporting her death. She was then brought home to Mokhele Street, where relatives and neighbours gathered in shock after discovering that she was alive.
Monamodi said the woman who died resembled her and suggested that her blonde hair may have contributed to the mistaken identity.
“Guys, I’m still alive,” she told those gathered outside her home.
The woman found in Villa Liza remains unidentified.
The case had been recorded as the ninth death in a series of killings involving women across Ekurhuleni since July. Police have not confirmed that the deaths are connected and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding each case.
