Royal AM and Mbabane Highlanders’ second round opponent in the CAF Confederation Cup Zesco United have secured a friendly against TP Mazembe.

The Zambian club will host 5-time African champions Mazembe of DR Congo in a preparatory game on September 20 in Ndola.

“Zesco United will next week, Tuesday, face Congolese side TP Mazembe in a friendly match scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola,”  said Zesco spokesperson Desmond Katongo.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE MAZEMBE FRIENDLY

“Zesco United will be hoping to use Tuesday’s game as a litmus test ahead of their 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup opener scheduled for next month.”

Mazembe is currently on a two-week long pre-season camp in Ndola, where they will play several other friendlies against FAZ Super League clubs.

The friendly will be Zesco’s second international club warm-up since drawing 0-0 away to Tanzanian side Azam FC on August 14 in Dar es Salaam.

Zesco, who enjoy a preliminary stage bye, will be away in the second round, the first leg to the overall winner of the Royal AM versus Highlanders’ tie during the weekend of October 7-9.

The final leg is scheduled for October 15 in Ndola.

Royal AM head into Friday’s final leg fixture in Durban against Highlanders tied at 0-0, which was recorded on September 11 in Eswatini.
