Six bodies riddled with bullet holes have been found scattered along the N1 highway in the Maraisburg area. The bodies are believed to be zamazamas, SAPS say the number of bodies could rise as officials are still searching.

The gruesome discovery was made on Wednesday morning.

Speaking to News24 while en route to the scene, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo believed what happened could have been due to ongoing clashes between rival zama zama groups.

Masondo also said the clashes had led to the discovery of three bodies in the same area on Monday.
