Tumelo Madlala becomes emotional while testifying about Senzo Meyiwa’s murder

Senzo Meyiwa childhood friend, Tumelo Madlala took a stand today at Pretoria High Court to testify on the series of events that took place on 26 October 2014, the day  Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was shot and killed in Vosloorus while visiting his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo.

Meyiwa was shot dead in October 2014 at the Vosloorus house of girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s mother Ntombi. They were there with Khumalo’s sister Zandi, Zandi’s boyfriend at the time, Longwe Twala, and Meyiwa’s friends Madlala, visiting from KwaZulu-Natal, and Mthokozisi Twala. Kelly’s two young children, one of whom was fathered by the goalie, were also present.

Madlala testified Meyiwa had called him to come to Johannesburg. “He gave me directions on where to get off. I used to go to his house, but that day he told me to get off at Spruitview.”

Meyiwa arrived in his BMW to pick him up. “It was Senzo driving, next to him was Kelly Khumalo, at the back was Zandi and Mthokozisi Twala.”

They stopped to buy liquor before travelling to the Khumalo home.

After laying the basis of his encounter with Senzo Meyiwa and how he met with the Khumalo family and the other acquaintance, Madlala also describe the mood in the house and the moments the intruders entered the house.

Madlala described the alleged attackers, saying the person who came inside the house had a gun and had dreadlocks, and that he was wearing a brown or caramel jacket.

Madlala then told the court that one suspects was being beaten by Kelly and her mom and sister in the kitchen whilst the other suspect wrestled with Meyiwa and how he punched the suspect while assisting his friend.

Madlala starting sobering when he described how Meyiwa was laying between the TV stand and the couch and as a result, Advocate Baloyi requested that the court adjourned until tomorrow.
