Chippa Announces Klate Twist – iDiski Times

Chippa United chairman Chippa Mpengesi has insisted that Daine Klate has not been fired and will be offered a different role in the club.

On Thursday, iDiski Times reported that Klate was relieved of his duties as head coach, with Siyabulela Gwambi named as head coach in their 2-1 win at AmaZulu, with Morgan Mammila named assistant coach on Saturday.

Mpengesi, though, has insisted that Klate was not sacked and is still an employee of the club.

“We’re going to meet tomorrow, we’ve got MDC, we’ve got unders, we’ve got a lot, so he might even come and return to what he had,” Mpengesi told Andile Ncube on Sports Night Amplified.

“He is not a guy that we would love to go unemployed. He is from Port Elizabeth. We are definitely going to deploy him, but then if he feels he does not want, that option is there.

“He has not been dismissed, that statement is not true.”

The chairman also revealed that Klate was still working on his MDC contract, even when he was on the sidelines as first-team coach for the club.

“I’ll to be honest with you, he still had the contract of MDC,” he added.

“We offered him revised terms of a PSL team, then he said he was still going to convene with his advisors but you know the games were going fast. We gave him [an offer] but he never gave us a revised contract of a PSL team.

“So he still is an employee of Chippa as per his old contract, but it’s not our fault that he didn’t sign. What could we have done? Unfortunately things happened.”

Mpengesi also confirmed that Gwambi and Mammila will continue in the dugout for the Chilli Boys after the duo impressed against AmaZulu.

“Why must we fix what is not broken? These are exciting times for Chippa United. They are going to continue taking the reigns. There are no vacancies for coaches here at Chippa, and I wish them all the best,” he concluded.
