New York Fashion Week has officially begun, running from Thursday, 10 September through to Tuesday, 15 September, and bringing roughly 70 runway shows and presentations to the city’s official CFDA calendar.

The week opened with one of its most closely watched moments yet: Henry Zankov’s debut collection as the new artistic director of Diane von Furstenberg, presented at 9:30am on opening day.

a new era for an American fashion icon

Zankov, a CFDA member who previously worked with the label more than a decade ago, was named to the role back in May 2026, making his opening-day show one of the season’s most scrutinised appointments.

Diane von Furstenberg remains one of the defining names in modern American fashion, closely associated with the wrap dress and a vision of independent, confident style, and Zankov’s first collection marks a genuine changing of the guard for the house.

The week will close on Tuesday, 15 September with Thom Browne, whose theatrical approach to American tailoring has made him a familiar and dramatic bookend for the season before.

what else is on the calendar this week

Ahead of the official opening, several major names got a head start on Wednesday, 9 September, including Ralph Lauren’s Spring 2027 presentation, alongside Coach, Cult Gaia, J.Press and Libertine.

Rachel Comey also used the evening to mark her label’s 25th anniversary.

Elsewhere across the week, returning names like Tommy Hilfiger, Monse and threeASFOUR share the calendar with newer arrivals including Conner Ives, Magda Butrym and Sabyasachi.

The official schedule also features three 2026 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists for the first time, Bad Binch TongTong by Terrence Zhou, Jamie Haller, and Milamore by George Inaki.

I always find the start of Fashion Week genuinely exciting, hey,

I’m personally a big fan of fashion myself. There’s something about a first show and a new creative director stepping up that never gets old.

Which fashion house are you most curious to see this week Mzansi?
