Polokwane City co-coach Papi Zothwane has admitted that they have a mammoth task ahead as they aim to bring back Rise and Shine to the DStv Premiership following their 3-0 win over Black Leopards in the Motsepe Foundation Championship Limpopo derby at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

City moved to second place on the table after their comfortable victory against Lidoda Duvha with four points from two outings. The side came into this clash having played out a goalless draw with AmaTuks last week.

He went on to express his gratitude to the club’s faithful who came in numbers to support them in the mouthwatering showpiece and vowed to do whatever it takes to help the team return to the South African football top flight.

“We become so grateful to see fans come support us. Remember this team was in the PSL so our task is very heavy because our supporters want to see this team come back to the PSL. Therefore, the technical team and the players are working extremely hard to make them happy,” Zothwane told the media in Polokwane.

“And obviously this is football, sometimes you lose games and sometimes you draw games but whatever that they do in terms of coming supporting us we appreciate it and we will make sure we make them happy in return.

WHAT ZOTHWANE WANTS

“For now, we just want consistency from the players that started the league and just intergrade the players that we feel like they can make a difference. For example, now when we are leading 3-0 we give other players a little bit of rest for the next matches.

“We have two games coming up on Tuesday and Friday before the FIFA Calendar.”

However, ‘Ginger’, as he is popularly known within football cycles was full of praise for his side’s all-round performance but insists that there is still a lot of work to be done.

“I’m happy with the performance from the boys, however, it’s a process of progression. Whatever that we try to instil and practice within the team we want to see it happening in the game,” he added.

“First match no patches, second game you can see Polokwane City the way they want to play and obviously going to the third game you would want to see that or more because we are going to have a break after Friday’s game. So, it’s a working progress, but working progress with the points in the back.”

The club will take on Venda Football Academy in another Limpopo derby on Tuesday, 13 September away from home. The game is scheduled for 15:00 in the afternoon.
