Isifiso actress Zinhle Mabena escaped assault case charges for the second time. The former Isibaya star had been embroiled in a domestic assault case that has been running for over two years since 2019.
Things have been so bad that she ended up spending a night in jail after her ex-husband Robert Ngwenya opened a case of attempted murder against her after an incident with his bodyguard dying. The case was thrown out early in 2021
Zinhle had two other cases of theft, and malicious damage to property laid against her by Robert thrown out.
The assault case was thrown out for the second time. Her ex-husband said he was seeking justice for himself through private lawyers after the matter was taken back to the courts for the second time. The first case was thrown out in October of 2021.
Zinhle was accused of assaulting Robert in their Midrand home after continuous domestic disputes after she allegedly attacked Ngwenya with a perfume bottle and a broomstick and used a pair of scissors to attack him. He accused her of hitting him with a photo frame in different incidences and got into a fistfight with him.
Ngwenya opened four cases against her in a centurion police station in 2019 and 2020.
Ngwenya dropped the charges last year after falling ill and told the courts to leave her to live her life as he was focused on recuperating. Robert had written to the National Prosecution Authority to reinstate the charges a few weeks ago.
He expressed shock at the decision to throw the case out because he wasn’t alerted to these new developments.
The businessman claims he wasn’t even aware that the case was back in court, saying he only learned this through the media. He says that this is not a surprise because he wasn’t satisfied with the investigation’s direction, saying there was foul play and the case was compromised.
Ngwenya referred to an incident where he complained about himself and a key witness being intimidated by the police, and that complaint was not attended to.
This is after reports of the key witness deciding to run after several threats against their life were made. The witness allegedly went back home to Lesotho.
Ngwenya referred back to the incident where his life was attempted, and his bodyguard ended up gunned down at a gas station, saying he was seeking justice for him. Zinhle was arrested on charges of conspiring to commit murder, but she was let go pending the outcome of the investigations.
Mabena appeared at regional court on Tuesday, according to her lawyers. The actress was supported by Act Now SA.
