Orlando Pirates secured got back to winning ways in the DStv Premiership with a 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.
Pirates seemingly succumbed to the pressure of moving into top spot last week when they fell to a 1-0 loss against Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium but showed no signs of complacency against the high-flying Galaxy.
Zakhele Lepasa played a central role in their impressive first-half performance, first forcing Given Msimango into scoring an own goal as his shot – after some slick passing play – was deflected beyond Melusi Buthelezi – who had kept five clean sheets from six games coming into the tie.
In an enterprising game of football which showcased some end-to-end action, Lepasa, did eventually manage to get his name on the scoresheet when another passage of play, which was easy on the eye, ended with 25-year-old chipping Buthelezi just before the break.
Galaxy looked to take the game to Pirates in the second half and like for the better part of the season when taking the lead, Pirates looked to remain compact and break on the counter after their high-octane starts to the game.
And it proved enough of the day to temporarily move to the summit, a place they could hold should Mamelodi Sundowns not get a result at the Tuks Stadium against Golden Arrows in the late kick-off.
