Arrows Boss Updates Lunga Status Ahead Of Sundowns

Golden Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi says he has not been told by his chairlady Mato Madlala whether Divine Lunga will not play against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Vilakazi said if that was the case, he would have known by now that Lunga won’t play against his parent club.

Lunga is on loan from Sundowns, with Downs trying to freeze one foreign spot as they wait for the announcement of the Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil.

However, iDiski Times sources has confirmed that Lunga is likely to play against his former club at Tuks Stadium tomorrow evening.

“I don’t know the status, I must be honest with you guys but the chairlady knows,” said Vilakazi.

“But I’m sure it would have been something I know by now if he won’t play. I don’t have that kind of information. We are still planning with Lunga going to the Sundowns game.

“If there’s something like that (that barred us not to play him), I’m sure the chairlady would have made us aware.”

Sundowns, when they loan a player as it is the case with Lunga, have an agreement that he can’t play against his parent club.

It was the case with SuperSport United who couldn’t use Ricardo Goss, Thabang Sibanyoni and Grant Magerman.

All these players SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt could not call upon them in the last two matches against Sundowns, including the MTN8 quarter-finals, with Hunt suggesting that they are weakening teams.

However, on Wednesday, as Sundowns have loaned out Siphesihle Mkhize to Chippa United, the midfielder played against Sundowns, with Tshwane giants winning the game in the last minute.

According to the iDiski Times sources, Sundowns were not going to allow Goss, Magerman and Sibanyoni to play against them as they consider their neighbours as direct rivals.

When it comes to Chippa, they don’t consider them as rivals in the league, hence Mkhize played. It is the case with Arrows.

The last time Arrows played against Sundowns, they were hammered by 6-0 in April last season, the biggest loss for the Durban-based club in the club PSL era. That led to the sacking of coach Lehlohonolo Seema.

Chairlady Madlala appointed Vilakazi and Mabhuti Khenyeza on the caretaker roles until the end of the season before they got the job on a permanent basis during the off-season.

Vilakazi said that loss doesn’t play in his mind.

“This is a different game. We are approaching a new game and we can’t rely on the previous result,” Vilakazi told this website. “We are going there without fear. We are going there to compete and try and get the three points of which it’s possible.”
