AmaZulu coach Brandon Truter has explained how far Sibusiso Mabiliso is from playing and clarified the delay in concluding goalkeeper Virgil Vries’ deal.
Usuthu invited the Namibian goalie for an assessment last month as Truter looks to beef his squad to mount a serious challenge for honours this season.
The AmaZulu coach previously worked with Vries at Swallows, and the goalminder’s presence at the club has created debate on whether Olwethu Mzimela and Amonome Jean-Noel will drop further down the pecking order, with Veli Mothwa being the preferred number one.
VRIES DELAY EXPLAINED
Vries came to Durban after he parted away with Swallows. And with over three weeks of training with Usuthu, Truter has yet to decide whether he wants to sign the Namibian.
“No decision yet, Vries came with an injury, and we are still nursing that, and we hope to get feedback soon. Then the decision will be made soon,” Truter told the media.
AmaZulu welcomed left-back Mabiliso, who recently re-joined the club after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs.
Mabiliso had a very challenging one-year stint in Naturena as he failed to play regularly under Stuart Baxter and Arthur Zwane, making only a handful of appearances.
The 23-year-old is yet to feature for AmaZulu, and Truter has given an update on the player’s progress since his arrival, revealing that Mabiliso is struggling with match fitness.
“We still have a week or two to look at him. He came from Chiefs with an injury he picked up during their pre-season,” said Truter.
“We hope to get him right after Fifa the break. He still needs some time to get match fit.”
Usuthu will host Chippa United on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Besides the two players, Truter won’t have Gabadinho Mhango available as the striker is serving a two-match suspension and will only return against Mamelodi Sundowns.
