62 undocumented foreign nationals arrested, R525,000 dagga seized in Musina operation
Limpopo police have arrested 62 undocumented foreign nationals and seized dagga worth an estimated R525,000 during a multidisciplinary Operation Retshepeng operation in Musina on Friday.
Police seized 11 black plastic bags containing dagga, along with two scales, a roll of sellotape and a cellphone. One woman was arrested for allegedly dealing in dagga.
Two people were arrested for allegedly selling liquor without a licence, while five others were arrested for contravening the Liquor Act. Another person was arrested for allegedly contravening the Immigration Act after overstaying in the country. Two suspects were also arrested for allegedly selling expired goods.
Authorities further confiscated 48 alcohol products, beverage crates, soft drinks, cleaning products, skincare and hair products, baby powder, beans and packets of instant yeast.
Traffic authorities issued 21 summonses and executed 27 warrants, while two maxi-taxis were impounded for allegedly operating without valid permits.
The operation involved the South African Police Service, Border Management Authority, South African National Defence Force, Department of Home Affairs, Musina Local Municipality and traffic authorities, among other law enforcement agencies.
Limpopo provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers said multidisciplinary operations such as Retshepeng would continue in the Musina and Beitbridge border area to disrupt criminal activity and enforce the law.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on various charges.
