The Open Chats Podcast is facing severe backlash after making racist remarks about the coloured community in South Africa.
The controversy led to them losing a major deal with DStv.
The podcast hosts made derogatory comments about the coloured community, including accusations of incest, as well as labelling them as “crazy”.
These remarks sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with many demanding the podcast’s cancellation.
MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv, confirmed that they had ended their contract with the Open Chats Podcast in July 2025. According to Suzaan Keyter, MultiChoice spokesperson, the decision was made to make way for their August content slate.
Suzaan emphasised that MultiChoice adheres to stringent quality control processes and does not promote discriminatory content.
The public has been vocal in their criticism, with many calling for accountability. Major League DJz expressed frustration with the growing trend of sensationalism and rage-baiting among South African podcasts, stating, “These podcasts are getting out of hand now. People are just saying things for reactions and trends. SMH”.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has also reported the matter to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) for a hate speech investigation. The SAHRC will investigate the complaint and determine the appropriate course of action.
The Open Chats Podcast has issued a public apology, stating that their intention was never to cause harm or disrespect the coloured community. However, many have criticised the apology as insufficient, arguing that it does not erase the harm caused by their words.
The podcast has since removed the offensive content.
