Sekhukhune United head coach Kaitano Tembo says he was pleased with Babina Noko’s performance despite seeing his side held to a goalless draw by Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership at Athlone Stadium.
The Limpopo club came into this encounter having suffered two losses in a row at the expense of Swallows FC and Royal Am with the same scoreline of 2-1 and they couldn’t afford to lose another game.
Speaking in the post-match interview with the club’s media officer, Tembo reckons that he was happy with Sekhukhune’s display as the club attempt to make progress under the Zimbabwean’s stewardship.
The ex-SuperSport United mentor further said that he felt like his side had dominated the majority of the showdown and they intend to build on their performance moving forward.
However, the 52-year-old coach was left disappointed with his team’s finishing against the Citizens but insists that they will address his side’s inability to put away bug-scoring chances.
“You know, our problems are in terms of converting the chances that we have been creating,” said Tembo.
“But in terms of the performance, I think we have been playing well. And today I was quite happy, most importantly that we managed to keep a clean sheet which was very good.
“Defensively we were solid. The only problem was when they had that one opportunity with Mayo [Khanyisa] that header there. I think we were a better team and had better chances.
“However, it is always difficult coming to Cape Town to play City and we came played like that [well] I’m very proud of the guys. We can now build from this performance.”
As a result, the side is currently placed 14th on the log standings with six points from seven outings.
Skhukhune will play their next league against another Cape club [Stellenbosch FC] on Saturday, 17 September at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium. The kick-off is at 17:30 in the afternoon.
