Rapper Mthembeni “Emtee” Ndevu has been released on R2,000 bail after spending 16 days at the Johannesburg Correctional Centre for breaching a protection order obtained by his estranged wife, Nicole Chinsamy.
Ndevu was arrested for allegedly violating the protection order, which was granted to Chinsamy in 2023 and prohibits him from verbally abusing or harassing her on social media, as well as publishing anything about her online, whether positive or negative.
His release came after Chinsamy told the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday that she had decided to withdraw the case and wanted to close the chapter and move on with her life.
“I made the decision to withdraw the case. I’d like to close this chapter and move on with my life,” Chinsamy said while testifying in court.
Ndevu exercised his right to remain silent during the proceedings, while his advocate, Kwena Manamela, read an affidavit outlining the financial impact his incarceration had allegedly had on his family.
The affidavit stated that Ndevu’s parents, Lumikile and Phathiswa Ndevu, as well as his three minor children, had been financially prejudiced as rental and school fees had allegedly gone unpaid following his arrest.
The rapper was granted bail on condition that he does not breach the protection order and does not publish anything about Chinsamy, either directly or indirectly, on social media.
He was also ordered to remove any posts he had already published about her.
