Lasizwe unmasked as Sushi on ‘The Masked Singer South Africa’

Internet personality Lasizwe Dambuza was revealed as Sushi in the most recent episode of The Masked Singer South Africa Season 3. This ended weeks of suspicion and speculation about who the character was on the show.

Sushi was sent to the Danger Zone along with another contestant, Gogga. The two entered a head-to-head competition to see who would stay on and who would be voted out. Gogga ultimately won the votes, thus unmasking Sushi as Lasizwe.

Somizi correctly guesses Lasizwe’s identity

The detectives on the show were tasked with guessing who was underneath the mask before they officially unmasked Sushi. Of all the detectives, Somizi was the only one to guess Lasizwe correctly. The other detectives confidently shared their guesses: JSomething guessed Musa Keys, Sithelo Shozi guessed Musa Mthombeni, and Jason Goliath guessed Tats Nkonzo.

Somizi’s correct guess moves him closer to winning the Golden Ear Trophy, which is awarded to the detective who correctly identifies the most contestants on the show.

The clues

During the episode, comedian and current host of the show, Mpho Popps, ran The Clue Game, a segment showing clues that should help both the detectives and the studio guests guess the contestants. The Clue Game produced three items: a cellphone, a R10 note and a Martini glass. Each of these clues is tied to different phases of Lasizwe’s career.

The cellphone was a callback to the beginning of Lasizwe’s career, where he started creating content on YouTube after winning a cellphone from a competition.

The R10 note is a nod to the charity drive that Lasizwe ran, the ‘R10 Goes A Long Way’ campaign, where he helped university students who were struggling to pay their registration fees. The martini glass is another nod to his YouTube show Drink or Tell The Truth.
