Bephor is a Korean beauty, hair and skincare brand that has formulated its products to meet the needs of textured and African hair. The brand recently held a masterclass on using its new products and educated attendees on the importance of having a scalp care routine.

Bephor: Beauty is a metaphor

The K-beauty hair and skincare brand is revolutionising the industry. Their philosophy is that self-care starts at the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. The brand focuses on scalp care specifically formulated for textured hair and African women’s scalps.

‘Beauty is a metaphor’ is the core of the brand’s beliefs, sharing that beauty is subjective, unique, and customisable. It commits to supporting the beauty needs, rituals, and practices of the “shadowed class” of women so that they can provide new perspectives, analysis, and solutions.

Prioritising your scalp

During the masterclass, the event’s presenter, Matahle Stofile, gave a detailed explanation of how scalp care is the first step in both skin care and hair care.

Stofile rewound the conversation, going back to the natural hair movement, back to when many African women held an important conversation on how to take care of afro-textured hair.

The speaker offered a poignant analogy of a plant. She stated that hair care is like taking care of the actual plant, and scalp care is like taking care of the roots and soil. It does the plant a great service to make sure that the soil in which it grows is rich, nourished, and healthy.

Similarly, it does your hair a great service to ensure the skin and scalp remain well taken care of. Thus, the importance of having a scalp care routine.

The products and routine

Bephor launched a line that has made it easy and beginner-friendly to start a scalp care routine. The Braid Rev line is formulated to focus on scalp replenishment and promote stronger, thicker hair.

The Braid Rev Scalp Cleansing Toner

The first step of the routine is the toning cleanser. This product is made to cleanse and refresh your scalp. When your hair is in protective hairstyles, it may be difficult to clean your hair and scalp without ruining the style.

This product aims to cleanse your scalp without needing to wash your hair. The product doesn’t harshly strip the natural oils your scalp produces. Rather, it wipes away sweat, gunk, and oils one may have put on their braids, giving your scalp a fresh feel.

The Braid Rev Scalp Sleeping Oil Balm

The second step is the oil balm. The brand highly recommends using the product at night, as the ingredients used are conducive to sleep. Slathering this product on your scalp after the cleansing toner will help rebalance oil and moisture in the hair whilst soothing the scalp and strengthening the hair.

The balm-to-oil formula melts on contact. The founders also explained that the lightweight formulation is intentional and formulated with the coily structure of textured hair in mind.

Oils usually don’t run down the strands’ shaft due to the coils. Therefore, light manipulation is usually necessary for optimal oil distribution. This lightweight formulation helps the oils in the product go down the shaft of the hair more easily.

Bephor Oil-Blend Reviving Hair Mist

The hair mist is Bephor’s new product targeted for the hair shafts. This product is designed to deliver deep hydration and rich nourishment to the hair. It is crafted for repair, aimed at smoothing cuticles, controlling frizz, and improving length retention.

Though not in the Braid Rev line, it can also form part of the third step of your scalp care routine. Thus, you can be cleansing, moisturising, and replenishing your hair all in just three steps.
