EFF Commander-In-Chief (CIC), Julius Malema was asked to explain what he meant by his party’s Dubul’ibhunu song.

The translation of the song is “shoot the boer” and Afriforum lodged a complaint against the party in 2020.

Appearing in court this week, Malema took to the witness stand and had to explain in detail what the EFF were chanting about.

The lobby group are calling for the song to be ruled as hate speech, for the EFF to apologise and be fined R500 000.

They claim the song incites violence against white farmers and white people in general.

Malema explained that neither he nor his party members sang shoot the boer, they did say shoot to kill.

He went on to say what they meant was to shoot anyone who stands in the way of the people and their freedom.

“We chanted, shoot to kill, kiss the boer, kiss the farmer,” Malema told the court.

When asked to explain what he meant, Malema said, “kiss the boer, kiss the farmer, I thought it’s English?”

Malema was then asked how people were to kiss the boer and he demonstrated with a smack of his lips, sounding “mwah”.

He denied that his party sang the song to taunt his party followers to target white people.
