South African Maskandi artist Senzo Zondi, professionally known as Ntencane, has formally apologised for missing his scheduled performance at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) on 15 August 2026.

In a letter dated 17 August 2026 and addressed to the SAMA team, Zondi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to perform while explaining the personal circumstances that prevented him from attending.

“Growing up, performing on the SAMA stage was one of my greatest dreams. I am therefore deeply grateful to you and the entire team for the opportunity to have been included as one of the performing artists on 15 August 2026,” he wrote.

Zondi said that on the day of the awards, he was confronted with the death and burial of his colleague, renowned Maskandi artist Scebi Dlamini.

The combination of the tragedy and the distance between his location and the SAMA venue made it impossible for him to attend.

He acknowledged the impact his absence had on the production schedule and offered a full apology.

“I fully understand that my absence impacted the production schedule and for that I am truly sorry. Please know that this decision was not made lightly. I have the utmost respect for the SAMAs and for the entire team which makes this event the success that it is,” Ntencane wrote.

Zondi emphasised his continued respect for the platform and expressed his desire to participate in future editions of the awards.

He also highlighted the value he places on his relationship with the SAMA organisers and expressed hope that the circumstances would not affect future collaboration.
