Cat Matlala denies links to Mchunu, Fani and Feroz Khan as Madlanga testimony enters crucial phase

Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has denied relationships with several senior police and political figures whose names have featured in evidence before the Madlanga Commission.

Testifying on Monday, 17 August 2026, Matlala said he had no relationship with suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, suspended SAPS procurement head Molefe Fani, or Crime Intelligence official Feroz Khan.

He did acknowledge meeting KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Matlala said the interaction concerned the Medicare24 healthcare contract and a warrant linked to his attempted-murder case. He declined to give fuller details, citing his pending criminal proceedings and the privilege against self-incrimination.

The Medicare24 SAPS contract remains a central issue. Matlala has not yet given a full account of the procurement, arguing it could prejudice his criminal case.

His denials create a direct evidentiary test. Investigators will need to check whether phone records, messages, financial documents, or other testimony support or contradict his version.

A denial is not a final finding, just as earlier allegations are not automatically proven. Monday’s evidence allows competing versions to be tested against the documents.

Matlala has now put his account on record. The documents may decide which version holds.

MDNtv will continue following his testimony.
