Sultry television actress Buhle Samuels has been accused by actress Asavela Mngqithi’s ex-husband and businessman Vuyisa Mqokiyana of moering him with an expensive women’s bag while under the influence of alcohol.
The alleged domestic violence occurred at Samuels and Mqokiyana’s rented apartment in Morningside, Sandton, Gauteng, on February 28, 2025.
The explosive titbits are contained in a R5 million defamation lawsuit Mqokiyana filed against Samuels at the Joburg High Court last week.
In the lawsuit, which Africa Daily has seen, Mqokiyana said that Samuels defamed him in the protection order she obtained at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court when she claimed that he was physically, emotionally and economically abusive towards her.
“The defendant failed to inform the court that at all material times on 28 February 2025 that she arrived midnight at the apartment, West Hotel and Apartments, Morningside, Sandton, Johannesburg, which was the apartment, at the time, shared thereto between the parties; was extremely intoxicated; assaulted the plaintiff with her Louis Vuitton bag (which amongst other the plaintiff bought for her), on his face, of which the plaintiff grabbed the bag as a form of self-defence,” read the papers.
Mqokiyana further said Samuels repeatedly and forcefully pulled the said bag from him, which ended up being damaged.
However, he said, she did not stop there.
She also verbally insulted him afterwards, he said.
The KwaZulu-Natal businessman said that in the protection order, which she obtained on 24 April 2025, Samuels claimed that she reports him to police for abuse.
He said the thespian stated in the protection order that despite reporting him to law the enforcement agencies, he was not arrested because he has personal connections with police officials at the station where the case was opened.
He said she further claimed that Mqokiyana retaliated by laying a charge of fraud against her at the same police station.
He explained that the former Muvhango actress further said she no longer felt safe at her own home as she suspected that individuals may have been monitoring her residence.
Mqokiyana also said the yellow bone belle further claimed that she felt unprotected and vulnerable as the police, potentially influenced by his connections, had failed to act impartially. He said she also claimed that instead of assisting her in pursuing legal protection through the courts, the police pressurised her to resolve the matter through mediation.
Samuels also said that in one of their violent tiffs, Mqokiyana strangled her. When she defended herself, he took her Louis Vuitton handbag and when she “fought him off”, he “bit my hand and we rolled on the ground”.
She claimed that in her defence, she held Mqokiyana in a chokehold to neutralise him, as he continued to wrestle with her and pulled her bag, resulting in the handle and chain being damaged.
He said she claims that he ran away afterwards.
He said Samuels also claimed that following the scuffle, she went and locked herself up in the room to avoid any contact and phoned the police to come to assist her.
Mqokiyana said Samuels was a Picasso of lies as all these things did not have hence her application for a permanent protection order was dismissed.
He maintains that the allegations damaged his reputation and were made with the intention to harm him.
He also disputes Samuels’ claim of financial abuse, arguing that he had financially supported her while she was unemployed.
The businessman claims Samuels was the sole director of Hair Maven (Pty) Ltd, a company contracted by his group of companies, which allegedly received R1.9 million over five months before the February 2025 altercation.
He says his companies have since instituted action to recover the money paid to Samuels’ company.
Mqokiyana further claims he paid some of Samuels’ debts and that she was driving a vehicle owned by one of his companies.
He also disputes allegations concerning a motor vehicle, saying the vehicle was purchased by Ubuhle Bempisi Consulting Engineers for the ownership and interests of Egxeni Engineering.
According to Mqokiyana, Samuels allegedly collected the vehicle from the seller on the company’s instructions but later registered it in her own name.
He says a directors’ resolution has been attached to the court papers in support of his version.
Mqokiyana further accuses Samuels of circulating her protection-order application among friends and on social media, which he claims resulted in further damage to his reputation.
The court papers refer to social media posts which repeated allegations contained in Samuels’ protection-order application and identified Mqokiyana as her former lover.
Mqokiyana argues that Samuels knew the allegations she made under oath were false and that she intended to publicise them to damage his standing as a businessman.
He accuses her of unlawfully and wrongfully violating his dignity and says the publication of the protection-order papers caused him significant reputational harm.
The businessman is seeking R5 million in damages from Samuels.
He is also seeking interest on the amount at 15.5% a year from the date of judgment until payment, as well as legal costs.
