Grammy-winning South African star Tyla is bringing her A*POP era back home with a special fan takeover at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg.
The event is set for Sunday, 16 August, when the amusement park will host an A*POP-themed celebration for Tyla and her fans, known as the Tygers.
Tyla celebrates A*POP with South African fans
The Johannesburg-born singer released her second album, APOP*, on 24 July. The Gold Reef City event comes after a run of international performances and will give local fans a chance to celebrate the new project with her in South Africa.
Tyla has described Gold Reef City as a place that holds personal meaning for her. She said returning home remains important despite her international schedule and that she values opportunities to reconnect with her roots.
The singer also said family and home remain central to her life, adding that there is no place like South Africa.
Fans can win access through TikTok
Fans hoping to attend can enter a competition through TikTok. Tyla has asked fans to create a video using any song from the APOP* album for a chance to win a ticket to the Gold Reef City Fan Appreciation Day.
South African Tourism will also provide transport for fans travelling from different parts of Gauteng to Gold Reef City.
Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille praised Tyla for remaining authentic and promoting South Africa, describing her as a daughter of the African soil and an advocate for the country.
Another major weekend for Tyla
The Gold Reef City celebration will take place one day after Tyla is due to be honoured at the 32nd South African Music Awards.
She is set to receive the International Achievement Award at the SAMA32 ceremony at the Sun City Superbowl on Saturday, 15 August.
The back-to-back events mark a major homecoming weekend for the global star, with one night recognising her international success and the next focused on celebrating APOP* with her South African fanbase.
