After parting ways with DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United, Zimbabwean goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini has resurfaced at his former club.

The veteran shot-stopper was spotted in action for Gauteng ABC Motsepe League outfit Highlands Park over the weekend in a Top 4 pre-season tournament, as first reported by Football Stage.

Babina Noko released Kapini before the start of the 2022/23 season alongside Ayanda Dlamini, Cheslyn Jampies, Lucky Boy Mokoena, Evans Rusike, Justin Shonga, Tshediso Patjie, Tumelo Matona, Sibusiso Mbonani, Siyabulela Shai, Seun Ledwaba, Charlton Mashumba and Rebone Ntsoane.

The former AmaZulu goalie will be hoping to secure a deal with the Lions of the North as the new season looms large.

Kapini also represented teams such as Black Aces, Highlanders FC, and Platinum Stars.

Allan Freese’s side finished second in Stream B of their provincial ABC League with 30 points last campaign, just two points adrift of stream leaders MM Platinum (La Masia), who went on to win the South African football third-tier national playoffs and gained promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

In an interview with FARPost three weeks ago, the highly-experienced goal-minder had issued a “come get me plea” to his boyhood club, Highlanders.

“If things were good, I could have come back long ago. People from Bulawayo often ask, but as of now, I don’t have that answer, but it’s my dream, and it’s all in Bosso’s [Highlanders] hands to give me a chance to give back,” said the 38-year-old footballer.

“It’s all about negotiating a contract and seeing what they have to offer for me as a senior player.”

Kapini will be expected to bring a calming influence to the amateur side with his excellent command of his 18-yard box and help the club challenge for promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship if they sign him.
