ConCourt rejects ATM bid to appeal Ramaphosa impeachment interdict

The Constitutional Court today, Wednesday dismissed African Transformation Movement (ATM) leader Vuyo Zungula’s application for leave to appeal directly to it against a Western Cape High Court ruling.

Zungula challenged the High Court’s order granting President Cyril Ramaphosa an interim interdict that halted public hearings by Parliament’s Section 89 impeachment committee. The interdict remains in place pending the outcome of Ramaphosa’s review of the independent panel’s Phala Phala report.

The apex court found it was not in the interests of justice to hear the matter at this stage, noting that the review application’s outcome would render the interim interdict moot. It also refused a related application to file a replying affidavit and made no costs order.
