SASSA beneficiaries can start planning for September, with the month’s grant payment dates confirmed for the first week of the month.

According to The South African, payments will be staggered across three days, beginning with the Older Persons Grant before moving on to disability and children’s grants.
September SASSA payment dates
The Older Persons Grant will be paid on Wednesday, 2 September 2026. Beneficiaries receiving the Disability Grant can expect their payment on Thursday, 3 September 2026. The Children’s Grants, including the Child Support Grant and Foster Child Grant, will follow on Friday, 4 September 2026.
The staggered system means different grant categories are paid on separate days rather than all beneficiaries receiving their grants at once.
Grant increases remain in place
The above-mentioned publication further reports that beneficiaries will continue receiving the increased grant amounts announced earlier in the year by the Minister of Finance.

The Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant are now R2 400, following an R80 increase. The War Veterans Grant increased by R80 to R2 420, while the Foster Child Grant rose by R40 to R1 290. The Child Support Grant and Grant-in-Aid also received increases of R20, bringing both to R580.
What beneficiaries need to know
September’s payment schedule follows SASSA’s usual approach of spreading payments across three days.
According to the information reported by The South African, grants are scheduled as early in the month as possible, while payment dates are arranged to avoid the first day of the month and Mondays. Dates affected by weekends or certain public holidays are moved to the next available working day.
For September, however, the payment dates fall neatly on 2, 3 and 4 September, giving beneficiaries a clear timetable for when their grants are due.
