In isolation, any club can beat any club in South Africa’s top flight on a given day. However, Chiefs fans are distraught at losing against Golden Arrows in the MTN8 quarters. It was Amakhosi’s first appearance in the competition in three years, and it has ended with an underwhelming whimper. Now, it’s back to the bread and butter of the Betway Premiership, and Chiefs fans will hope the club can build on an opening day win against Kruger United.
Chiefs fans also question midfield selections
Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has been desperately unlucky with injuries in the past few campaigns. However, it seems as though the club is readying a deal for the talented 26-year-old. Does his track record warrant it? Ngcobo started in the number 10 role against Arrows and was largely ineffective. Meanwhile, new signing Adolf Mtasingwa also started, and fans didn’t hold back in their criticism of the player on Facebook.
What’s the next fixture for the Glamour Boys?
After dusting themselves down after the defeat to Golden Arrows, Fernando Da Cruz’s side meets MTN8 semi-finalists Sekhukhune on Wednesday, 12 August and then Sundowns on Saturday, 15 August. It’s a busy spell early on in the season, and Chiefs can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves for long.
