Afrika Mayibuye Movement leader Floyd Shivambu has reported a vehicle break-in at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront in which electronics, documents and other valuables were stolen.
The incident happened on Wednesday while Shivambu and members of his party were attending a ward candidate verification meeting.
Shivambu said the group had parked a hired vehicle in an outdoor parking area before going inside for the meeting.
About an hour later, they returned and discovered that the vehicle had allegedly been broken into.
Western Cape police are investigating the incident as a theft from a motor vehicle.
Laptops and documents stolen
Shivambu said the stolen property included a travel bag, handbag and backpack.
Among the items inside were a MacBook Pro laptop, two iPads, watches, bank cards and personal identity documents.
Other personal belongings were also taken.
Images of an alleged suspect were obtained through the V&A Waterfront’s security control room and handed to the South African Police Service to assist with the investigation.
A criminal case was opened at Table Bay Harbour Police Station.
Other break-ins reportedly recorded
Shivambu said other complainants were also at the police station reporting similar vehicle break-ins when he arrived.

Election programme continues
The break-in happened while the Afrika Mayibuye Movement was conducting its nationwide physical verification of ward councillor nominees.
The process forms part of preparations to finalise the movement’s candidate list ahead of South Africa’s 2026 local government elections.
Shivambu said the theft would not derail the organisation’s campaign activities.
“No amount of distraction will stop our march towards victory,” he said.
The movement has continued with its verification programme despite the loss of the equipment and personal documents.
