Helen Zille, the Democratic Alliance’s mayoral candidate for Johannesburg, is not stopping with her cheeky, Gen Z-inspired campaign. She recently used a meme of a man flipping the bird in response to the City of Gold’s service delivery failures.

The controversial politician posted a series of images of potholes and dilapidated buildings across the city, with the man, an ANC supporter, comically edited into each one.

“You saw Madala’s famous finger,” she wrote in her Facebook post. “Now look around Joburg, and you’ll see it everywhere else. In every pothole, sinkhole, sewer collapse, water outage, hijacked building and broken traffic light.”

The former Cape Town mayor concluded, “That middle finger wasn’t an accident. It’s the same finger that the ANC and smaller parties show you every day.”

The city is currently under the control of the ANC, with Dada Morero serving as the Executive Mayor.

Helen Zille’s antics cause laughter

The post spread like wildfire across social media, with many responding with laughing emojis and applauding Helen and her team’s creativity.

“I rest my case, give Helen Zille Joburg mayorship. There won’t be another strategic politician like Zille. She’s a genius, political guru,” commented one Facebook user.

Another shared, “Truth be told, MaHelen knows how to campaign for votes, shem, because I am on the floor right now.”

“Zille is seriously on a roll. Give this woman a round of applause. First time in history I’ve seen someone expose the government like this with a sprinkle of humour. Brilliant,” wrote an impressed online user.
