Former Big Brother Mzansi contestant Ashay Sewlall is taking the next step in his entertainment career after officially joining Gagasi FM as a co-host on the station’s popular weekend show, Umsindo Takeover.

As reported by Daily Sun, the Richards Bay-born personality, affectionately known as “Paprika” during his time on the reality series, will co-host the Saturday programme alongside Mkay Music and Sphokuhle Luthuli. The appointment marks Sewlall’s first venture into radio presenting and follows his successful stint on Big Brother Mzansi, where he built a loyal fan base thanks to his energetic personality and authenticity.

A new chapter after Big Brother

Although Sewlall narrowly missed the Big Brother Mzansi finale earlier this year, his television exposure has opened several doors in the entertainment industry. He revealed that he received multiple offers after leaving the show, but chose Gagasi FM because of the platform’s strong reputation and reach across KwaZulu-Natal.

The former footballer and content creator has described the opportunity as one of the biggest milestones of his career, saying it represents growth for his personal brand while allowing him to connect with audiences differently.

Gagasi FM shared that Ashay’s addition marks another significant milestone in the station’s continued evolution as it strengthens its commitment to delivering fresh voices, authentic storytelling, and world-class entertainment that reflects the pulse, ambition, and culture of a new generation of South Africans.

What listeners can expect

Speaking to Daily Sun, Sewlall said listeners can look forward to plenty of energy, entertainment and feel-good vibes when they tune into Umsindo Takeover. His appointment also forms part of a broader refresh at Gagasi FM, which recently announced several presenter changes across its programming lineup.

For fans who followed his journey on reality television, the move signals another exciting career evolution. As Ashay Sewlall swaps the Big Brother house for the radio studio, he is proving that reality TV can be a launchpad for lasting opportunities in South Africa’s media industry.
