Three men arrested after failing to produce identification during Johannesburg CBD patrol
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers stopped and questioned three men on the corner of Delvers and Rahima Moosa Streets in the Johannesburg CBD during routine crime prevention patrols.
The individuals were asked to produce identification documents, including passports, asylum permits, or any other form of legal identification. All three were unable to do so.
They were taken to Johannesburg Central SAPS for verification. After the process, all three were charged with contravention of the Immigration Act.
The incident forms part of JMPD’s ongoing visible policing and immigration compliance efforts in the inner city. Similar operations in recent months, often conducted jointly with SAPS and the Department of Home Affairs, have resulted in repeated arrests of undocumented foreign nationals in the CBD and surrounding areas such as Hillbrow for failing to produce valid documentation.
JMPD has repeatedly reminded residents and visitors that carrying valid documentation is required and that those found in the country without legal status face arrest and processing in accordance with the law.
