Kaizer Chiefs’ expected starting XI against Kruger United

Kaizer Chiefs will field their strongest eleven when they play their first Betway Premiership match of the season against newcomers Kruger United.

Amakhosi have only made four signings this pre-season but their league opener might give them an indication on where they need to improve.

Fernando Da Cruz, who took over as Chiefs coach this month, said the attacking areas still needed improvement.

Here’s how Kaizer Chiefs can shape up next weekend

Goalkeeper

Brandon Petersen remains the club’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper after an impressive campaign last season. He will start most league games.

Defence

Thabo Monyane is expected to start at right-back ahead of Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons.

In central defence, Thabo Moloisane could form a solid partnership with Miguel Inacio, while Bradley Cross is likely to continue at left-back after establishing himself as one of the team’s most consistent performers.

Kaizer Chiefs have a solid team for upcoming season

Midfield

New signing Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko is expected to slot straight into the starting XI. His defensive qualities and ability to control the tempo should complement the experience of Lebohang Maboe in midfield.

With the duo providing balance and protection, Mduduzi Shabalala would have greater freedom to operate in an advanced role, where his creativity and attacking instincts can have the biggest impact.

Attack

Kaizer Chiefs are still searching for a proven striker before the transfer window closes, but the current front three is expected to feature Wandile Duba and Asanele Velebayi on the wings.

Flavio Silva is likely to lead the line as the lone striker, although the club could still strengthen that position before the start of the new Betway Premiership season.

Here’s the strongest Kaizer Chiefs starting lineup: Petersen, Monyane, Moloisane, Miguel, Cross, Maboe, Bitegeko, Shabalala, Duba, Velebayi and Silva
