Sekhukhune United midfielder Linda ‘Figo’ Mntambo has revealed what coach Kaitano Tembo told his team at half-time to turn the game against Mamelodi Sundowns around.
Mntambo, who scored the equaliser right after the break and won the Man of the Match, award, was upbeat about his side’s performance against the defending champions.
He explained that Tembo told his team at the break to be more fearless after Masandawana had 75% possession in the first 45 minutes.
“In the first half we gave them all the respect, we kept chasing, we gave the all the possession,” he told SuperSport TV.
“At half-time in the change room, the coach made it clear that we need to be fearless, we need to take the game to them. We’re playing at home, we’ve got nothing to loose.
“Out second-half performance was really good.”
Mntambo explained they wanted to press Downs higher in the second interval to disrupt their dominant style of play.
“We had to do that, we had to press at the top with Tshegofatso Mabasa and Victor Letsoalo. We had to make sure we put them under pressure and force them to play long,” he added.
“That really worked in our favour. You could see at kick-off in the second half we went after the first goal and it resulted in a goal.
“I think overall, great team performance, the boys showed character, especially in the second half and we have to be grateful for that.”
