Innocent Masuku, a former Tshisa and Yizo Yizo actor, has revealed how drugs destroyed his life and career.
The actor, who portrayed high school drug addict Bobo in the then-popular SABC1 drama series Yizo Yizo, is one of Mzansi’s top stars who has spoken out about their drug addiction.
Innocent, according to the Daily Sun, spent six weeks in a rehabilitation center seeking treatment for his drug addiction. He is eager to change his life and resume his acting career.
He told the outlet that he wants to return to acting. “I am taking my life my life back, I want to venture back into acting and continue entertaining people,” he said.
He continued “I would love to help other addicts beat this demon, and I will continue motivating people.” He lamented how his addiction ravaged his life and claimed he lost his house worth R2 million and cars. The actor recently came out of Witpoort Recovery Centre, and he is positive about changing his life and making a positive change to help other drug addicts.
According to the actor he began using drugs in 2000 after being exposed to them through a friend, and he misused over R500 000.
“I never thought drugs would destroy my life.” He continued “I enjoyed them because I was having fun and I felt good when I had taken them.”
He said although he lost a lot of money on drugs, he also lost opportunities. “I don’t have money now, in fact I am broke. But, I will start a new life.”
The most important thing I did when I got into rehabilitation center. I opened myself up to treatment. Look at me now. I am a new person,” he said.
He warned the youth about the use of drugs. “Drugs kill and take away your dignity. Drugs are demonic. I was emotionally attached to them and they turned me into a zombie. I lost everything because of them,”
Recently, the supporter of the Economic Freedom Fighter shared a heartfelt message where he exhorted the youth not to follow in his footsteps and to do better in life.
“Be careful of the choices you make. It’s amazing how time flies. Sometimes, the choices you make can cost you many opportunities,” he said.
He added that he lost worthwhile opportunities due to his drug addiction. “When I got into the acting industry, I was involved in drugs, and I regret it because I lost so many opportunities. I lost so many friends and good things and the sad part is that I won’t be able to regain that time,” he said.
