Award-winning South African film titled Angels: They Are Amongst Us is set to open in South Africa cinemas nationwide on Friday.
This according to a media statement released by Wisdom Mobile Marketing Solutions, a public relations company owned by veteran actor Sello Maake kaNcube’s wife, Pearl Mbewe.
The film, directed by Robert Benjamin, has already won Best Feature Film, Best Director and Best Actor at the Halo International Film Festival in St Petersburg, while also receiving the Best Spiritual/Mystical Film award at the Remember the Future Film Festival in Cannes.
Angels: They Are Amongst Us is the culmination of Benjamin’s 21-year creative journey inspired by a single question: Are angels real, and are they closer than we think?
Rather than offering definitive answers, the film explores themes of faith, hope, loss, love and the possibility that extraordinary moments often emerge in ordinary lives.
According to the media statement, audiences at international screenings described the production as emotionally moving and visually compelling, praising its blend of romance, human struggle and spiritual reflection.
The film stars Keenan Arrison alongside veteran actor Sello Maake kaNcube, Brümilda van Rensburg, Ofentse Rakololo, Schelaine Bennett, Elsje Slabbert, Dion Mhlongo and Wheaton Dyers.
For Maake kaNcube, the production marks another milestone in a career spanning more than four decades across theatre, television and film.
The filmmakers say the production highlights the strength of South African storytelling at a time when locally produced films are increasingly finding audiences both at home and abroad.
Angels: They Are Amongst Us opens on Friday, 24 July 2026, at Ster-Kinekor, Nu Metro and Alpha Cinemas across South Africa and Namibia.
