Orlando Pirates are now negotiating a straight transfer for the highly-rated 21-year-old goalkeeper. According to iDiski Times‘ David Kappel, discussions between the two clubs remain ongoing.
TRANSFER TALKS CONTINUE
Dublin Boon’s representative, Rasthoem Simons, confirmed negotiations are moving in the right direction and both parties hope to conclude the deal soon.
“It’s still ongoing discussions. We hope to finalise soon,” Simons told Kappel.
Orlando Pirates initially wanted to sign Boon as part of a player exchange involving Stellenbosch FC. However, the deal collapsed after Kabelo Dlamini rejected a move to the Cape Winelands.
The midfielder reportedly chose to stay in Soweto and fight for his place under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. The Sea Robbbers are believed to have rewarded Dlamini with a new two-year contract, ending the proposed swap agreement.
The failed deal also left the futures of winger Faiz Abrahams and Boon uncertain. Bucs have since returned with a fresh proposal to complete a permanent transfer.
ORLANDO PIRATES STRENGTHEN GOALKEEPING
Born in Christchurch, New Zealand, in December 2004, Boon began his career in the youth academy of Roda JC Kerkrade in the Netherlands. He later joined Wellington Phoenix before making the move to South Africa.
Stellenbosch FC signed the promising goalkeeper on a free transfer in August 2025. He has mainly served as a backup and Diski Diski Challenge player.

Despite limited first-team opportunities, Boon remains highly rated and is regarded as a goalkeeper with significant long-term potential.
Orlando Pirates are looking to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of the new Betway Premiership season. Sipho Chaine remains the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, while Siyabonga Dladla and Ethan Visagie provide additional competition.
Melusi Buthelezi departed to join Sekhukhune United. Should negotiations be finalised, Boon would become another young addition as Orlando Pirates continue investing in emerging talent.
