Following the release of the hit Netflix series The Polygamist, Kenya’s Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, shared that he wanted it banned in his country.

He revealed that he was the product of polygamy and thought that the show portrayed the cultural practice in a negative light.

The Polygamist, based on Zimbabwean author Sue Nyati’s acclaimed novel of the same name, is a 22-episode series starring Sdumo Mtshali and Gugu Gumede as the lead stars.

It explores the life of Jonasi Gomora (Mtshali), a charismatic but deceitful banking tycoon whose first wife (Gumede), a social media influencer, discovers his double life.

A call to ban The Polygamist in Kenya

In a video that has taken social media by storm, Mosiria shared his take on polygamy, stating, “If you say polygamy is bad and I’m a product of polygamy, then you mean that my father made a mistake bringing me into this world. Polygamy is good. It’s only abused by a few people.”

He added that if a man is unfaithful during his marriage, the spouse should look for ways to control the man.

“Let him bring that girl he’s cheating with, sit down and agree. This is the person you’re going to cheat with. Instead of cheating, marry her. That’s where polygamy qualifies.”

The politician continued, “This movie should be banned completely from Kenya. It should be suspended from Netflix, and we are going to sue.”
