The newly released trailer for Izingane zeS’thembu Season 4 has generated plenty of excitement ahead of the show’s return, but it has also ignited a lively debate on social media. While many fans are eager to catch up with the Mseleku siblings, much of the conversation has centred on the trailer’s unexpected use of an AI-generated soundtrack rather than the upcoming storylines.

Fans question creative decision

As reported by Briefly News, Mzansi Magic recently confirmed that Izingane zeS’thembu will return on 20 August, following the lives of Musa Mseleku’s children as they navigate adulthood, relationships, family expectations and personal growth. Season 4 also promises a greater focus on the younger members of the Mseleku family and deeper emotional storylines.

However, after the trailer was released, many viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to question why AI-generated music was used in the promotional clip. Several users argued that a locally produced soundtrack would have better reflected the show’s authentic South African identity, while others expressed concern about the growing use of artificial intelligence in creative industries.

“Why [are] they using AI music?” questioned one X user.

“It’s so upsetting how this song doesn’t fit the trailer!! Yhuuuu!” read another comment.

“Haibo with the AI song? But we will be there!” said one more.

Excitement remains high

Despite the criticism surrounding the trailer, anticipation for the new season remains strong. The upcoming episodes are expected to explore family legacy, personal ambitions, business challenges and evolving relationships as the Mseleku siblings continue carving out their own paths.

”I’m ready to defend Sne,” commented one X user.

“Mseleku might just rival that Kardashian mother after all is said and done,” read another comment.

“Owami seems like a bubbly girl; I’m looking forward to experiencing her. Thando and her soft voice, looking forward as well to experiencing her in this show,” added one more.

As the online debate continues, the reaction highlights how audiences are paying closer attention not only to the content they consume, but also to how it is produced.

Whether the AI soundtrack ultimately affects viewers’ reception of the series remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Izingane zeS’thembu has already become one of South Africa’s most talked-about television returns before its premiere.
