KZN Probes Claims Teacher Posts Were Sold for Sex

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has launched an independent investigation into allegations that teaching posts were sold for money or exchanged for sexual favours.

The claims emerged from a video widely shared on social media. It allegedly shows the wife of the department’s head of communications, Muzi Mahlambi, confronting him over the alleged sale of teaching positions.

In the video, she reportedly claims that some female teachers paid money or offered sexual favours to secure employment within the department. The allegations have not been tested or proven.

Department Promises Independent Process

Head of Department Nkosinathi Ngcobo ordered the investigation after the video gained widespread attention.

The department said it viewed the claims seriously because they could affect the integrity of public administration and the trust placed in the education system by KwaZulu-Natal residents.

An independent body will conduct the investigation and consider all relevant evidence. The department said the process would be handled without fear, favour or prejudice.

However, it warned the public against reaching conclusions before investigators have completed their work.

The department stressed that due process must be followed and that everyone involved must receive the fairness guaranteed under the law.

Public Urged to Provide Information

The department said it remained committed to ethical conduct, accountability and good governance.

It also promised to cooperate fully with the independent investigation and take decisive action once the findings are released.

Anyone with credible information connected to the allegations has been encouraged to approach the investigating body or the relevant law enforcement authorities.

The probe comes as concerns about fairness and transparency in the appointment of teachers continue to affect confidence in the education sector.

The investigation will now seek to determine whether there is evidence supporting the claims made in the viral video. Until that process is complete, the allegations against Mahlambi remain unproven.
