South African actress and media personality Linda Mtoba was revealed to be the face behind the mask of Lady Monster on the lastest episode of The Masked Singer South Africa Season three, which aired on SABC2 on Saturday 11 July.
LINDA MTOBA UNDER THE MASK OF LADY MONSTER
Lady Monster had the panel of detectives completely fooled on the latest episode of The Masked Singer South Africa Season three. Somizi Mhlongo, J’Something, Sithelo Shozi, and Skhumba all failed to identify her behind the fluffy costume, despite chasing clues in her song choice, movements, and introduction package. Lady Monster performed the lively hit Golden by HUNTR/X but lost her round against Mosquito, landing in the danger zone alongside Spotty.
Her clue package hinted at her rise to fame in 2016, the year Pokémon Go became popular, and included playful references to cooking without recipes and rejecting comic-book saviours. These clues sent the panel in different directions, with guesses ranging from Mampho Brescia to Busiswa Gqulu, Thembi Seete, and Brenda Ngxoli. Even Sithelo, who is close friends with Linda, was misled, believing Lady Monster was another actress.
When Linda finally unmasked herself, the detectives were stunned, especially Sithelo, who shouted about Linda’s daughter Beanie, a big fan of the show. Linda admitted that her family will tease her for months for keeping her identity secret. Known for her breakout role in Isibaya in 2016, Linda has since become a household name and style icon in South Africa.
The Masked Singer South Africa Season three is produced by Rose and Oaks Media for Primedia Studios, the show airs on SABC 2 on Saturdays at 19:00, with rebroadcasts on SABC 1 on Thursdays at 21:00 and SABC 2 on Fridays at 13:30. The episodes are also available on Netflix.

What made you choose Lady Monster?
I chose Lady Monster because she’s a lady and she’s a monster like me. She is pink, she’s got beat, she is absolutely fabolous. So, it was a no-brainer for me honestly. I loved the costume.
Was it difficult keeping the secret from your friends and family?
It was difficult keeping the secret because all of a sudden everyone becomes detectives at home asking me why do I have pink fluff on myself, what was I doing today at work, so it becomes kind of a difficult one to navigate. All of a sudden everyone is curious about my day at the office.
How did your family react to finding our you were Lady Monster?
They were so chuffed, so surprised and so happy because we love watching it and it was such a pleasure to actually see me on stages and see their faces. They are very, very happy and excited for it. The whole family enjoyed it.
