Zwane Explains How Du Preez Injury Affected Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has explained how the injury of Ashley Du Preez affected Amakhosi’s game plans and which player was supposed to replace him.

Du Preez picked up an injury in the build-up to Chiefs’ game against Sundowns, missing out on the 4-0 drubbing at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

After the match, Zwane said he tried to replace Du Preez with Dillan Solomons because they have similar characteristics.

“Yesterday when Ash started training he gave us that hope but when he pulled out of the training now we have to restructure, how we’re going forward,” he said after the game.

“So we tried to just to keep the pace upfront, let’s start with Solomon because he was once a winger, actually naturally he’s a winger.

“So we said let’s put him in position 10 and also giving us that width and the speed, we wanted to keep that pace going forward.

“The only time you pose a threat to Sundowns defence was going to have players, these profile players who can have that combination of break-attacks going forward.

“But it wasn’t to be and as I said we learned a lot from this game and we move on.”

Chiefs return to action on Saturday when they host log leaders Richard Bay at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
