Kaizer Chiefs striker scores in Amakhosi’s first friendly match in Spain

The result denied new Kaizer Chiefs coach Da Cruz a winning start, but it provided another valuable opportunity to assess his squad ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.

Amakhosi opened the scoring through Ighodaro. However, Rangers snatched a late equaliser to ensure the match ended level.

The Nigerian striker’s goal looked enough to seal victory until Findlay Curtis capitalised on a defensive lapse in the closing stages.

FERNANDO DA CRUZ ROTATES HIS KAIZER CHIEFS SQUAD

With fitness and tactical preparation the priority, Da Cruz used the friendly to give several players valuable minutes while experimenting with different combinations.

Kaizer Chiefs started with Brandon Petersen (captain), Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Inácio Miguel, Given Msimango, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Kamohelo Maboe, Baartman, Mfundo Vilakazi, Ethan Chislett and Flávio Silva.

The coach made several changes after the break as Pule Mmodi, Renaldo Leaner, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Zitha Kwinika, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Asanele Velebayi, Kabelo Nkgwesa and Reeve Frosler all featured.
