Erik ten Hag cancels Man Utd day off after Brentford defeat

Erik ten Hag has called off Manchester United day off on Sunday following a 4-0 loss to Brentford in the Premier League yesterday.

The side had intended to let his squad have the rest of the weekend off as they had no game to play until their home match against Liverpool on Monday, 22 August.

In a turn of events, following their humiliation beating to Brentford the club boss revised his plans to let his troops rest. In a nutshell, United players are paying the price for their unacceptable display against The Bees.

According to BBC Sport, ten Hag is understood he was at Carrington early on Sunday to mull over the nature of a defeat that has drawn plenty of criticism from both fans and pundits.

The Red Devils arrived back in Manchester on Saturday night and were called back into Carrington on Sunday morning to be put through their paces again.

Meanwhile, the club’s faithfuls have started ‘#EmptyOldTrafford’ movement on the socials, which means supporters must boycott Old Trafford for the match against Reds in order to send a strong message to the club’s hierarchy.

When asked about where it has gone wrong following a bright pre-season, the Dutch mentor said: “I can bring up several things why [it’s gone wrong so far], but it looks like excuses, and excuses are not there in a top [club].

“We have to deliver, and we didn’t do.“We have to change. That’s quite clear. We have to start better, we have to stick to the team, stick to the plan… We didn’t do that today.”

“One mistake, okay, can happen. But then a second and a third mistake – it’s not acceptable. It is what we have to work on and players have to know that.”
