Klate Leads Chippa To Victory At Orlando Stadium

Orlando Pirates suffered a dramatic 1-0 to Daine Klate’s Chippa United in their DStv Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Pirates came into the game knowing three points could elevate them into the top-three after three rounds of fixtures and despite another attack-minded display, their lack of cutting edge, as was the case in the 2021/22 campaign, continued to be their Achilles heel.

Jose Riveiro previously stated they would look for motivation from the home supporters this season and they once again came in their numbers up against the Chili Boys, who are led by former Buccaneers winger, who returned to mastermind a historic first win in his DStv Premiership career.

Kwame Peprah was reinstated into the starting eleven along with Vincent Pule but it was Thembinkosi Lorch and Bienvenu Eva Nga who had the best chances to win the game for the home side in either half but neither showed the composure to find the net.

And late on, in the 85th minute, a towering header from Tanzania international defender Abdi Banda secured all three wins to inflict Riveiro’s first defeat since taking over at the Soweto giants as the visitors moved up to 10th place, while Pirates dropped down to 10th – with both on four points from three rounds of fixtures.

Pirates XI: Ofori, Maela, Ndah, Sibisi, Hotto, Monare, Mosele, Monyane, Lorch, Pule, Peprah.

Chippa XI: Kazapua, Pietersen, Pfumbidzai, Chabalala, Mathiane Kammies, Luthuli, Appollis, Poggenpoel, Banda, Matrose
