Death of Anele Tembe back under microscope

The visual investigation, published by News24, pieces together Tembe’s movements in Cape Town using CCTV footage, incident reports, receipts, and social media activity leading up to her fatal fall from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in April 2021.

The footage has prompted renewed online discussion, with many calling for answers while others urge the public to avoid speculation until the inquest concludes.

According to News24, the release of the footage comes just days before the inquest into Tembe’s death, which began on 13 July 2026 at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.

The proceedings are expected to hear testimony from several witnesses as the court examines the circumstances surrounding her death.

Social media reacts to investigation

On social media, reactions have been mixed. While many users expressed hope that the inquest would provide long-awaited closure for the Tembe family, others cautioned against concluding based solely on the footage circulating online.

The renewed attention has once again placed the tragic case at the centre of public discussion.

The circumstances surrounding her death have remained the subject of public scrutiny for years, with her family continuing to seek clarity through legal channels. With this video, surveillance pushes to reveal that.

The publication of the investigation drew a response from Tony Forbes, the father of the late rapper, who criticised the release ahead of the full investigation.

In a social media post, Forbes insisted that the truth would emerge through the legal process and maintained that his son was not responsible for Tembe’s death.
