Ex-Chiefs Captain Parker On Galaxy Switch

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Bernard Parker has opened up on his move to TS Galaxy after signing a two-year deal with the ambitious DStv Premiership side.

Parker spent the past few weeks training with SuperSport United with the hope of getting a contract after 11 years at Amakhosi where he departed with a club legend status.

However, the 36-year-old was subsequently snapped up by the Rockets after spending most of the pre-season at Matsatsansa, who face off against each other on Sunday.

The Rockets come to this game with their tails up following a midweek shocking 1-0 win against twelve-time league champions Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld stadium. Sibusiso Vilakazi was identified as someone that had intel after doing most of his preseason with Sundowns – and a similar situation could arise.

Gavin Hunt’s boys come into this game without a win after opening the season with a 1-1 draw against Chippa United and getting a 2-1 defeat against AmaZulu which leaves them in dire need of three points to get their new project underway within his second stint in Tshwane.

However, Parker, who could be in line for a debut against Matstsansa admits he’s just grateful for the opportunity to continue his career as they place their faith in him with a two-year contract.

“I’m very very happy that I’ve found a new home with TS Galaxy. Thank you very much to the Chairman, that he’s got full belief and full trust in me,” Parker said.

“He’s got full trust in me to be part of the team. I really appreciate that and I can’t wait to get things going with the Rockets. It’s a giant baby and I’m here to grow, I’m here to help and grow the team to greater heights and bring in leadership and experience.

“Everything I have, I will give to the team, so I’m very happy and thankful to my family for the support and I can’t wait to don the TS Galaxy jersey.”

The Rockets host SuperSport this afternoon at the iconic Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga at 17h30.
