Sundowns Hammer Chiefs At Loftus

Mamelodi Sundowns profited from two early errors from Kaizer Chiefs to secure an emphatic 4-0 win in their DStv Premiership clash at Loftus Versveld on Saturday afternoon.

Chiefs came into the game brimming with confidence after their mid-week 3-0 win over Maritzburg United while Sundowns suffered a shock 1-0 loss to TS Galaxy at the same arena.

Amakhosi head coach Arthur Zwane confirmed they would be coming to Loftus to play expansive football and that they ‘fear’ no team as they arrived in Tshwane one spot ahead of the reigning champions.

But a Siyabonga Ngezana misplaced backpass saw Gaston Sirino open the scoring inside the opening six minutes, while he also fouled PSL Footballer of the Season Peter Shalulile ten minutes later to concede a penalty – which the Namibia international slotted home with aplomb and the home side took that lead into the break.

Zwane made the decision to haul off Ngezana and Cole Alexander for Njabulo Ngcobo and Kgagoelo Sekgota respectively, with Njabulo Blom moving into midfield and it paid immediate dividends as they looked to be the more dangerous of the two sides. But just after missing a guilt-edged chance with Reeve Frosler skying one from inside the area, Sundowns got their third.

Peter Shalulile, his clinical self bagged his brace to send the home support into a frenzy but it nearly was damped a minute later when Masandawana conceded a penalty. But it was a case of everything going wrong, going wrong for Amakhosi as Ronwen Williams saved his spot-kick just before the hour mark.

New signing Abubeker Nassir made it 4-0 for the home side, following a brilliant solo run before placing his shot past Bvuma to score his first goal for the defending champions.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch FC beat previous log leaders Royal AM 3-1 and Golden Arrows drew 1-1 with Marumo Gallants.
