Feroz Khan Assault Allegations Heard At Inquiry

The Madlanga Commission has heard allegations that suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Major General Feroz Khan assaulted a female senior police officer with a pen at SAPS headquarters in 2018.

Captain Mark McLean, a detective attached to the Hawks, presented evidence about the alleged incident involving Crime Intelligence officer Brigadier Leonora Phetlhe on Friday, 10 July 2026. The evidence included an audio recording and a medical examination form.

Medical Report Records Several Injuries

According to McLean’s testimony, Khan allegedly poked Phetlhe several times with a pen during an exchange inside the SAPS offices.

A J88 medical form completed after the alleged incident recorded four superficial wounds on Phetlhe’s chest. It also noted swelling on her left forearm and a superficial bruise on the left side of her face.

McLean told the commission that Phetlhe consulted a doctor and later opened a criminal case against Khan.

However, the commission heard that the case was subsequently closed after the National Prosecuting Authority decided not to prosecute.

Audio Recording Played Before Commission

An audio clip played during the hearing reportedly captured Khan objecting after Phetlhe addressed him by his surname.

“I’m General Khan to you. I’m not your friend,” Khan can be heard saying in the recording, according to IOL’s report on the proceedings. He later allegedly told Phetlhe that “a pen is very powerful”.

The Feroz Khan assault allegations form part of a broader body of evidence being presented to the commission about his alleged conduct and use of authority.

Separately, retired Hawks officer Colonel Kobus Roelofse alleged on Friday that Independent Directorate Against Corruption head Andrea Johnson accessed information from the assault docket and forwarded it to Khan. The commission has not made findings on that allegation.

Khan Remains In Hospital

Khan was not present during the testimony. He remains in hospital after he was shot several times in Houghton, Johannesburg, on 28 June 2026 and underwent emergency medical treatment.

His legal representative attended the hearing while the commission continued presenting evidence in his absence. The commission previously heard that Khan was unconscious and unable to provide instructions following the shooting.

The inquiry is also examining allegations involving Khan’s conduct at the Aeroton cocaine seizure, police tenders, suspected abuse of authority and financial disclosures. Khan has not yet presented his response to the evidence because of his medical condition.
