Mofokeng’s mother issues apology to Kaizer Chiefs after trending farewell video sparks outrage

Naomi Mofokeng, the mother of departing former Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng, has issued an emotional public apology to Kaizer Chiefs supporters following a major backlash over a video recorded at the player’s farewell dinner this week.

A video clip from the event went viral across social media platforms, showing the newly signed Union Saint-Gilloise forward taking a direct swipe at Amakhosi.

Addressing the guests, Mofokeng initially promised to make the nation proud in Europe, stating: “I will be very short, I am going to make you proud. I will give everything I have the same way I used to give my all at Pirates.”

However, it was his parting shot that immediately set social media alight. “Kaizer Chiefs will breathe a sigh of relief now that I am going away,” Mofokeng declared, prompting further laughter in the room when an attendee shouted, “Sundowns too.”

With the footage sparking intense debate and anger among the Amakhosi faithful, Naomi Mofokeng moved swiftly to de-escalate the tension, releasing a video pleading for forgiveness on behalf of her son. “We are sorry. Don’t take it so personally,” she pleaded. “He is just a nice kid, he was joking and didn’t mean it in a bad way. He was just fooling around. You know he is a humble and respectful kid. We are sorry Makhosi, we love you so much.”
