Tyla dragged to court
Tyla reportedly faces legal trouble as two producers allege they were excluded from credit and compensation for her breakout hit Water.
The rising star, along with her record label Sony Music Entertainment, is now the target of a lawsuit filed by California-based producers Olmo Zucca and Jackson LoMastro, who claim they contributed to the track’s production but were never acknowledged.
The producers argue that despite being part of the song’s creation, they were left out of both the official credits and royalty payments.
They allege the main credited producer, Samuel Awuku, known as Sammy SoSo, sidelined them and went on to negotiate the deal with Tyla’s team on his own.
“In violation of plaintiffs’ rights, Awuku has taken sole credit for the entire production of the song,” the lawsuit reads.
“He negotiated and entered into a producer agreement directly with Seethal, failed to tell plaintiffs (or Goufar) about it, and failed to cut plaintiffs in on equal terms.”
The duo claim they tried to resolve the matter privately, but those efforts reportedly failed.
They are now asking the court to officially recognize them as co-producers and grant them their share of royalties, including future earnings and publishing revenue.
The situation has sparked mixed reactions online.
Some fans believe Tyla is being unfairly targeted now that the song has gained global success.
One user wrote: “It’s always sad to see lawsuits pop up after a song blows up. If you believe in your work, negotiate upfront or request fair compensation; don’t wait till success to take it to court. Feels more greedy than principled.”
